Ugh. This sucks. De La Torre’s/La Bodega just burned.
At 8:10 or 8:15 or so, neighbors to the popular Bardstown Road restaurant noticed fire on the exterior wall of the building (the one nearest Cherry Bomb, we think) and alerted folks on the inside of the restaurant. At the same time, staff members allegedly smelled smoke and were searching the building.
We were in the area when things went down. Imagine it: Saturday night after 8:00 P.M. on Bardstown Road. Bumper-to-bumper traffic. And 7 or 8 fire engines, police cars and ambulances have to make their way through it all. Was pretty interesting, to say the least. In our estimation, at least eleventy hundred billion fire and po-leece personnel were on-hand.
Snapped a crappy iPhone picture from the car as we tried to get home (no more Krogering on a Saturday night! Jeez!). It’s taken from the alley behind Uptown Cafe. Tons of smoke.

Let’s keep the De La Torre’s/La Bodega family in our thoughts.

With any luck they’ll be back open in a month or so. The fire was mostly contained to the upper part of the structure, so water damage will be the most significant challenge for the lower floor. It didn’t look like there was much smoke on the first floor, which is a good thing. But it was dark and I was shooting from outside, so it’s hard to know for certain. One can only hope.
Hopefully their insurance is adequate to cover everything. It would be a shame to lose such a mainstay.
