If you thought you couldn’t eat at Stoney River at The Summit because of the tough economy—think again!  I received a postcard in the mail advertising new reduced prices AND a gift card for $20!  Two of us went to give the new menu a try and were delightfully surprised.

Upon entering the lodge-style escape, soaring stone fireplaces and tall pine ceilings instantly give you the feeling of being far away at a mountain retreat. There is a red canoe hanging on the wall symbolizing the adventurous side and a clue of what lies ahead. Rich aromas fill the air and beckon you to try a thick legendary steak, a seafood selection or tender baby back ribs.  A low hum of conversation drifts through the lodge as guests enjoy the upscale but casual atmosphere and a drink from the bar located in the center of the room.

Upon being seated, our waitress was personable and attentive. We were served delicious complimentary flash fried poppy seed rolls with sweet honey butter.  Since we were here to try dining out recession-style, we both ordered the thick 10 ounce bacon cheeseburger, one of the lower priced items on the menu.

This prime beef selection is served with aged white cheddar cheese and peppered bacon, as well as your choice of toppings.  On the side, we enjoyed a generous portion of parmesan cheese fries delivered in a fun and nostalgic red and white cardboard container.

Stoney River had announced that it had changed portion sizes in order to reduce prices, but the servings were still substantial and there was no room left for dessert—in fact, we had to request a take out box.

Now for the fun part.  Our total bill came to $25.42. With our $20 gift card, our total bill came to $5.42 plus a tip. (About $2.71 each). Now that’s dining out – recession-style!!
