Last week’s opening of Bountiful Bread (in Westport Village) and the future opening of Calistoga Bakery Café (first in Lexington and later in Louisville) signal well-heeled investors’ belief that companies like Panera Bread and Atlanta Bread Co.—not to mention a host of independent players—don’t have a lock on locals’ lips, and newcomers want a slice of the action.

Business First’s Terry Boyd filed two stories this week on Bountiful Bread and Calistoga Bakery Café. Despite CBC’s backing of John Schnatter’s dollars, Bountiful Bread’s operators believe their quicker-to-market position will help them out-duel Papa John’s new fancy.
