A sad note we received. . .
Louisville’s venerated Café Metro is closing this weekend. For good.
The restaurant’s last day of operation will be Saturday, Sept. 19th. Despite such heroic rescue efforts like Chef Gary Byler, Jr.’s new small plates menu, a more casual atmosphere in its new piano bar, and specially themed events such as [...]

Cue Freddie Mercury and the boys.
“And another one down, and another one down/Another one bites the dust…”
On Thursday, Louisville lost another landmark restaurant with the closing of The Fifth Quarter Steakhouse on Durrett Lane, near the Kentucky Exposition Center and Male High School. The economy gets the lion’s share of [...]
Looks Like Cheeseburger Shrine Gone for Good

How do you remember the cheeseburger? Is it as one of those mama burgers filled with onions, bell peppers and all the other ingredients that mothers loved and you couldn’t stand? I remember telling my mother point-blank that the restaurants don’t serve them that way. Mom always insisted that hers [...]

End of the Line for Park Place, Browning’s
October 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments
It’s quite a setback for downtown when the acclaimed restaurants in the absolute ideal location can’t make it.
But last night was the end of the line for Park Place on Main and Browning’s, located at Slugger Field. Park Place, in particular, had been gaining acclaim and Chef Jay Denham one of the most recognized chefs [...]

Gee, This is an Important Restaurant City

Hitch the Wagon: John Schnatter’s Calistoga Bakery Cafe will open its first Louisville location this year in Dupont Circle. The building it’s remodeling has hosted several restaurant concepts, beginning with Bennigan’s and most recently a Chinese buffet restaurant. I seem to remember a Mexican stage, too. We’re hopful for Schnatter’s enterprise, which has been compared [...]

Stratto’s cum Bristol, BLU gets new chef
March 26th, 2008 · No Comments
The ever-observant foodies over at Louisville Hot Bytes passed along these tidbits in the site’s forum.
Stratto’s in Clarkesville closed on Easter Sunday, but will live on, sort-of, as a catering site for the Bristol Bar and Grille set to open in the same town later this year.
Editor Robin Garr reported BLUMediterranean Grille and Bar (in the [...]

Wings-N-Things out, Turkey Joe’s in
January 22nd, 2008 · No Comments
It’s a shame Wings-N-Things on Hurstbourne Parkway never made it. It was as nice a strip center spot as you could find for a place to get a beer, wings and a burger for a decent price. But, alas, the restaurant business is a hands-on biz, and investor owners (it was owned by a UPS [...]

Seviche takes Sunday rest through April
January 21st, 2008 · No Comments
The Courier-Journal recently reported both Seviche locations (1538 Bardstown Road and 2929 Goose Creek Road) will close on Sundays through the end of April. Maybe that’s a hint as to when the Bardstown Road site’s patio will reopen (fingers crossed!)
