Self owns and operates Bon Vivant Savant, which pairs local restaurants and adventurous eaters who want to socialize at great local spots. There are less than two dozen chapters in North America, though they exist in many major cities.

“People don’t have the time to really plan how they socialize anymore,” Self said. Membership fees, she added, go to the custom creation of event-specific calendars e-mailed to each member. “These tell you about events you want to attend.”

Events are already scheduled at least weekly, but Self wants to have at least six to 10 available each month by May. Louisville’s inaugural chapter meeting starts with an event at Jennica’s Café and Wine Bar on Monday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. (Click here to register.) Cost for the event is $20, and new members save $25 on their first year’s membership fee ($125 for singles, $195 for couples). The event will include heavy hors d’oeuvre and a beer or wine tasting.

Future events include a Feb. 21 wine dinner at Primo, and a family dinner night at Le Gallo Rosso Bistro every fourth Tuesday.

Each event has its own feel and fee. Some resemble grand happy hours with loads o’ food and drink ($20-$25), while others are full-blown, sit-down dinners (ranging from $45 to $75). “Those costs cover all fees, tax and gratuity,” Self said. “You pay only for extra beverages you order.”
