Cuddly acquisition for prickly El Nopal: Business First reported that Mexico Timpico, operator of El Nopal (translated “the cactus”) in So. Indiana, has scooped up three Los Indios restaurants in the same area. The story didn’t say whether the restaurants will be rebadged as El Nopals, but it’s likely they will. The story did say […]

After opening briefly on Tuesday, Claudia Sanders Dinner House in Shelbyville closed its doors again after 28 customers fell ill after dining there on Easter Sunday (the restaurant always closes on Mondays). ‘Dirty Dining’ talk spills from V.V. Eats to HotBytes
February 8th, 2008 · No Comments
Ville Voice Eats readers aren’t the only ones spooning up criticism of recent TV news reports on Louisville restaurant inspections. The discussion has spilled over into the forum on Louisville HotBytes. I particularly liked this post from Aaron Newton:
“It was kinda shameful, a reporter going into mostly, from what I recall, fast food places, grilling […]

February is sweeps month for TV stations, so per usual, some local TV news outlets trotted out some reports designed to capture viewers—and gross them out or make them fearful in the process.
Such was the case with two recent reports aired on WDRB Fox-41 (by reporter Julie Tam) and WHAS-11 (by newcomer Adam Walser) criticizing […]

Good grades for TV news restaurant inspection reports
February 1st, 2008 · 5 Comments
Reports filed this week by WDRB Fox-41 and WHAS-11 on restaurant inspections were actually more informative than expected. Our preemptive criticism of these reports centered on WHAS’s ratings-driven hype rolling up to its own reports, and we implied doubt that the station would unearth any real information.
Its reports, (see WHAS’s “Dirty Dining,” Fox posted the […]

WHAS restaurant report: Expect a helpin’ of hype
January 30th, 2008 · 4 Comments
WHAS 11 is promoting a special report on restaurant sanitation that’s scheduled to air on Thursday at 6 p.m. Judging by the commercial, as well as some of the station’s overwrought special reports done in the past (anyone remember the report on bodily fluids found in hotel rooms?), it’ll be much more hype than news.
Yes, […]
